Dan Clifton

Dan Clifton is an acclaimed film-maker, writer and journalist, recognised for his powerful story-telling and singular creative vision. In over fifteen years of making films, he’s drank toasts with rocket scientists at the heart of the Russian space complex, flown with helicopter paparazzi in Los Angeles and investigated the causes of the Hindenburg Disaster.

Recent work includes forthcoming short film THE CALCULUS OF LOVE, a mathematical thriller starring Keith Allen; and drama-documentaries ESCAPE FROM TURKEY and HUMAN BODY: PUSHING THE LIMITS, which was nominated for Primetime Emmy and RTS awards for Excellence in Visual Effects. Dan’s Channel Four documentary about Tory spin doctor Amanda Platell, telling the inside story of the Conservative Party’s imploding 2001 election campaign, made front page news across Britain. Dan has a special interest in science, with documentaries for Horizon and the C4 Equinox strand (for the award nominated THE ENGINES THAT CAME IN FROM THE COLD). Our doomed dreams of controlling the world around us through technology has been an enduring fascination.

Dan is now looking to make the move into scripted drama, and has been developing a number of projects as Writer/ Director aimed at both the cinema and television. In 2008 Dan’s first screenplay CASTLE ROBIN (supported by Screen South) was selected from over 300 entries for the prestigious EquinoxeTBC script development programme.

Dan is a former member of the Edinburgh Television Festival Advisory Committee and currently sits on Directors UK Development and Communications Committee.

Dan spent his childhood in Brussels. After returning to the UK he went to Oxford where he gained a First in Philosophy, Politics and Economics and was Editor of student magazine Isis.
