Bears Fonte

Bears Fonté is the Director of Programming for Austin Film Festival where he over sees the film competition and the selection of 200+ films for the annual eight-day festival. Prior to that, Bears read for the screenplay competition at AFF for 7 years and wrote coverage for independent producers and coverage services in LA. His most recent short film, The Secret Keeper, has played at 27 US Film Festivals since September of 2012. His feature thriller iCrime, which he wrote and directed, was released on DVD, VOD and streaming by Vicious Circle Films in 2011. His two self-produced web-series have been seen by a combined ten million viewers. Bears has won or been a finalist in numerous screenwriting competitions. He received his MFA in Directing from Indiana University and has directed for a number of theaters in Austin including the Austin Shakespeare Festival, Teatro Humanidad, and the Texas premiere and award-nominated production of Terence McNally's Corpus Christi. He received his undergraduate degree in Theatre Arts and British Studies from Carleton College where he studied under Tom Szentgyorgi and Jeffrey Hatcher.
