Personal Profile

Nathan Theys

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, but currently based in London. Revealing a deep interest in the arts from a young age, I realized that filmmaking was my passion. My parents, both active opera singers and mentors, encouraged me to follow my dream, which presently I am living.

I studied drama at the New Africa Theatre Drama School in the late 90s, thanks to writing teacher, Fatima Dike, an acclaimed award-winning playwright, who motivated me to write and direct my own stories. In 2000, I joined The Cape Heart Educational Theatre Company as an actor and workshop leader.

In 2003, I moved to London to pursue a career in directing. The following year, I obtained a bursary to study at the London Film Academy, where I learned from professionals amongst them the BAFTA award winning director, Richard Kwietnovsky, Aliens and and Fifth Element Cinematographer John Award to name a few. In 2007, I teamed up with another prestigious name in the film industry, award winning producer Len Trusty and feature producer Alec Christie. This association led me to become more actively involved as a young director to direct videos for Century Media Records and EMI Records, where I have since worked with bands such as Grammy award winning Paradise Lost and Multiple Award winning In This Moment and Grammy award winning The Swingle Singers.

I'm currently writing and directing my first feature film.
