Personal Profile

Christian Spencer

Christian Spencer was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1977.

Since a young age was always interested in Nature and indigenous cultures. He started painting professionally in 1996 in Adelaide. Then moved to work and paint on a sheep station in a isolated farm in the heart of the Flinders Ranges, South Australia.

It was there that Christian Spencer developed his own style mixing islamic geometry, meso american motifs, tribal art with the harsh beauty of the Australian Outback.

In the year 2000 moved to Brazil and since 2001 lives on mountains in the south of Rio de Janeiro state, among the rich biodivesity of the Atlantic Rainforest.

Christian’s work expresses the abstraction that he sees in nature, the “Invisible Orquestrated Cosmos”, in which he captures the Macro and Micro cosmos and its inter-relation.

The recent experience of spending nearly 3 months in South Africa in 2009 and a Artistic Residence in Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic, in 2008 greatly influenced his new paintings, which mix alchemist symbols, gothic architecture and the animals and striking beauty of Africa.

In 2004 C. Spencer started producing music in his home studio creating his own unique sounds of dub, electronic and accoustic music mixed with sounds of the forest where he lives. In 2006 picked up his first video camera and made the Film “Itatiaia - A Look Inside” with Gibby Zobel, where he mixed visual images with his experimental music creating a journey through image and sound.
