Personal Profile

Michael Maxxis

Michael grew up in Edmonton, Canada, and was never really interested in the arts. He has always been a huge Oilers fan and grew up on Stallone, Van Damme, and Schwarzenegger films. Musically, he was only exposed to the most mainstream options, but never really cared about any of it. Instead, he spent his time riding dirt bikes, playing hockey, getting in fights, and chasing girls.

After three years of business school, Michael lost interest and unexpectedly dropped out. After about a year of soul searching, he found his inspiration when a friend mentioned to him that he was planning on moving to LA to try and become an actor. Acting was not of interest to Michael, but that sort of reckless and unrealistic aspiration caused him to consider a career that was just as crazy. It came down to two things:

1. Train to become an NHL goalie
2. Become a film director

Michael’s inspiration comes from real life experiences, stories, and characters, not from film school lectures, text books, or artistic references. His blue collar, shoot from the hip approach has led to an award winning body of work, including the 2010 Director of the Year MUCH Music Video Award (MMVAA), and a 2011 Juno nomination for Best Music Video.
