Short Film Profile

The Taste of Salt

A young man receives an early morning from his longtime girlfriend, who is visiting her family in their Midwestern hometown. She is calling to break up with him; she's not coming back. Feeling low and not sure how to get over this abrupt conversation, the young man drives into the desert to visit the Salton Sea. There he spends the day reveling in the concentrated salinized environment, feeling cleansed - mind, body and spirit. He leaves the beach, one of the lowest geographic points in North America, with a new perspective. It's all up from here.

Film notes

Shot on location at Bombay Beach, CA - a derelict resort community on the Salton Sea.

The Taste of Salt was a non-union, deferred project, which cost $500 to make.
