Short Film Profile

An ascetic meteorologist for many years lives and works on a distant meteorological station in a sort of a voluntary exile from the society he once belonged to.

Film notes

Hermit is an artistic documentary focusing on visual expression, atmospheric imagery and simplicity of form, shot on the Valamo archipelago on Lake Ladoga in the North-West of Russia.

Through close observation of the lyrical protagonist’s moderate but charming lifestyle, the film takes a look into a world, where all is determined by a continuous ritual of observation, measurement and fixation of atmospheric conditions. The film maker lets his viewers peer into and listen to the harmony of the North with the eyes and the ears of its lyrical character.
