Film notes

Growing up in a Bengali household in Delhi, India, Satyajit Ray’s films and stories was like the staple diet for me. The fascinating world of his stories, the simplicity and the sense of adventure continues to charm and inspire me. So while I was thinking about my diploma film, the final film of my student life in FTII, I had to dedicate it to Satyajit Ray, one of the most important reasons why I chose filmmaking. That apart, the film is very close to me as I drew references of my own life and the times I spent with my grand-dads. The memories of the our story-sessions, how they made characters come alive, how I traveled to far-away places mentally as I heard them with rapt attention…I wanted to put all of it together in the form of a film and that is how Quisse Wala Quilla (The Fortress That Told Tales) happened. It’s a film about stories, through a story.. in search of story….
