A Short Epic About Love

Against the backdrop of 'La Scandale', the famous affair of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, a young woman finds herself behind the scenes during the final shooting days of the 1963 epic Cleopatra and embarks on her own intense, emotional romance. Burton and Taylor's relationship remains a constant presence in a world she knows nothing about.

A Short Epic About Love is the director's love letter to the 1963 epic Cleopatra and the films of 1960s Cine Citta Studios where Hollywood's view of ancient Rome met the contemporary Rome of Fellini.

'I aimed to give the film dreamlike elements illustrating the sensation of falling in love and it's 'epic' momentum on whoever experiences it. I wanted to explore the idea of an 'ordinary' person's emotional awakening against the backdrop of the celebrated affair of Elizabeth Taylor - that the celebrated affair as ordinary in appearance to everyone else and one's own personal experience as a perceived 'epic' (Josephine Halbert - writer and director A Short Epic About Love
