Short Film Profile

Life's a Bitch (and Then You Die)

Paris, 20th district. 17 years old Hervé spends his days screwing around and flirting. His meeting with Pauline, his new girl friend, is an opportunity for him to brag in front of his older homies in the neighborhood.

Film notes

The plot of this short film is the coming of age of Hervé, who’ll have to make a decision as a man.
I wanted to deal with the relations between boys and girls in my neighborhood (Paris, 20th arrondissement), a cosmopolitan district with various ethnicities, which is unfortunately endangered by gentrification and high rents.
I chose film, super 16mm, for its timeless perspective. The way to prepare and to work with film is way different than digital, and the vision of the first reels in the lab is like a reward for the whole crew.
I’d like to thank Olivier Quadrini and Eric Trucco for lending me for free the Aaton, and Annick Virlouvet and Michael Belin, for their support and kindness.
I dedicate this first short film to you.
Thank you to the whole cast & crew for your commitment on this project.
One Love for all the children in Paris 20th and all over. Maïlys and Nino, we love you.
