Short Film Profile

Le Carrousel Atomique

An old blackboard narrates the story of Little Manfred and his obsession with carousels. Little Man also has a problem - when he is shouted at, he grows visibly smaller and when he receives applause, he gets bigger. One day, Little Man has a bright idea of how to turn his unique abilities to his own advantage.

Film notes

Project presentation:

It all started with a sketch during a chemistry lesson: an electron revolves around his nucleus. The electron is erased and replaced by a character. The nucleus of the story is born.

From scientific musings to life experiences, this nucleus soon fills out. It is chewed and rechewed to give birth to a real modern tale: «The Atomic Carousel».

Themes treated are vast: influences of other people’s opinion, self-confidence, the outcome of dreams, scientific representations of macrocosm and microcosm... the romantic will be touched by the heroe’s fate, the technically oriented will ask how, philosophic minds will think, artists will comment the beautiful, children will laugh. Because people are never reduced to one of these facets only, every spectator will enjoy the tale in his own way.

The filmmaking on a blackboard naturally came to mind as a means to tell this story born in a classroom. It is a short movie, a cartoon drawn with chalk. In times of technical exploits of animation blockbusters, the use of chalk reminds that a movie remains above all series of images projected one after another. The subtle ancient aspect of the image is enriched of an original soundtrack, with a musical theme composed especially for the occasion.

Even tough the movie is the work of one man, numerous artists took part in the project through their productiv questionings.

It is a huge pleasure to present this project to you.
