Short Film Profile

Son of David

A father and son bicker as they journey along the Great Ocean Road en route to Adelaide. They have five days, a rented car, a prescription-drug abusing guest - and a world of unaddressed emotional baggage. As tension grows between the father and son, their guest reveals that he is there for a little more than just the free ride.

Film notes

'Son Of David' is based on a short story of the same name I wrote for a winter semester subject at Swinburne University in 2010. While the story itself is completely fictitious, I believe that there is a lot of truth in the emotional damage caused by divorce within its context. Parental separation is such a common and regular occurrence in my generation that today individuals are prone to presume that their peer’s parents are already divorced, or were never married to begin with. What I hope to achieve with Son Of David is a highly dramatised but sincere piece concentrating on the dicey relationship between a disputing father and son.
