It's the middle of winter. At a deserted and snow covered campground in the Dutch countryside, two men are playing the French game pétanque. Hilbert, who is living like a hermit, and Hamid, a disheartened illegal immigrant. Hilbert is a gifted and fanatic player who hopes to escape their desolation by starting a pétanque team with his new comrade. When a presumptuous criminal, looking for a hiding place, arrives at Hilbert's caravan, things get rapidly out of hand. will Hilbert ever find his way out into the world?

Film notes

De boule boule (Pétanque you very much) is a tragi-comedy in which all three characters are on the run in their own way. crudity eventually leads to an embrace of life. The film is, like the potatoes from the area, rough on the outside, delightful on the inside.

This independent and low budget short is the directorial debut of former painter and actor Fedde Hoekstra. He also wrote the script and edited the movie. De boule de boule was shot in only three days and without any additional lighting. Award winning actor Tygo Gernandt stars as Hilbert and the psychedelic soundtrack was composed by the sleazerockduo zZz.
