Three journalists tell how they risked their lives because of their job, and narrate the events that pushed them to leave their countries and look for safety in France, which has always been considered a land of asylum; these journalists are Tcheita Vital, Haitian radio journalist, Enrique “Pirulito” Galeano, Paraguayan radio journalist and blogger, and Oumar Dia, Mauritian journalist and political activist.

Shot in Paris between April and June 2008, MDJ Freedom in exile is a documentary that reflects upon themes like freedom of the press, exile and reception of people in exile, thanks to the accounts of journalists who found refuge in Paris and of other people working at the Maison des Journalistes: Tcheita Vital, Enrique “Pirulito” Galeano, Oumar Dia, Danièle Ohayon, Philippe Spinau, Fanny Chagniot, Darline Cothière-Robert, Philomé Robert and Youssef Zirem.
At the same time, the film presents the project of the Maison des Journalistes (or MdJ), which for the time being is the only facility in the word that welcomes persecuted journalists.
