Soul Flowers

Andy Butters is in trouble with the bank. They’re threatening to reposes his farm. Since the death of his wife, Jenny, Andy has struggled to bring up his daughter Ruthie and manage the farm that has been in their family five generations.

This brings the return of Uncle John, the brother with a chip on his shoulder. He’s horrified to discover Andy and Ruthie have shunned the dependable potato to grow wondrous Soul Flowers instead. Not believing the flowers exist Uncle John is determined to plant potatoes before it’s too late.

The problem is, Andy just can’t get the Soul Flowers to grow. He’s tried everything but they just keep wilting away. But he’s run out of options, it’s plant now or lose the farm.

Andy beats Uncle John to the fields, but sure enough the flowers fail to grow. Having risked everything, things look bleak. Uncle John gets on with packing up the house, ready for the inevitable. Whatever he does, he just can’t make Andy see he’s living in a dream world – a world that’s doing damage to Ruthie. She needs her father back. He has to let go of Jenny and the flowers she would have loved so much.

Ruthie thinks she may have found the key to making the flowers grow but first she needs to persuade Uncle John to put aside his differences with Andy and help save the farm. Only then, can the flowers show Andy that it’s time to move on.
