Short Film Profile

L'Incantesimo di Gilbert

A young little orphan loses herself in the Woods of Vain Things. In her journey, she finds an old log cabin: it is soon revealed to be the dwelling of Gilbert, the prize-builder, victim of a strange spell.

Film notes

L'incantesimo di Gilbert (Gilbert's Spell) is a true exercise in style, trying to translate the classic fairy-tale narrative devices into cinema. Deserted and spooky woods, a poor little orphan abandoned because of famine, and eventually a weird character victim of a dangerous spell: these are the elements of a suggestive, melancholic tale, speaking of deep philosophical themes in light touches. All this is enclosed in a cinematic research of fantastic nature, clearly pointing to the Eighties.
