Paula Damasceno was born in Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, in 1975. During her first 28 years she developed diverse artistic skills as classical ballet, drawing, watercolor painting and professional theater. In 2003 she started to work for a documentary film production company and there, for fours years, she worked and learned the art of documentary making, through experiences in Brazil, France, Vietnam and Germany. In 2007, she started to work as a freelancer and independent documentary maker in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and USA. She developed a focused career on memory, history and culture themes, many times touching social and political issues as well. Currently she lives in Greensboro, NC, USA, where she is working on two personal projects, Homo Kinema and Public Domain; and managing her LLC named Storia. She also decided to be a UNCG Media Studies Student, in order to learn the current trends, up-date techniques and consolidate her knowledge about film history and industry In 2012 she received a grant from The North Carolina Humanities Council for her documentary Carolina 85.
