Mike Turner

Mike Turner has worked in independent film, commercials, themed attractions, theater and as a freelance artist on projects ranging from automotive painting to portraiture to video production. Inspired since a young age by visual storytelling, in sci-fi and fantasy films, novels, comic books, etc., some early influences include the work of Ray Harryhausen, Frank Miller, J.R.R. Tolkien, Ridley Scott and Frank Frazetta.

Turner graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1997 and worked in Los Angeles, spending time bouncing around special effects shops. In 1999, he returned to his native Vermont in 1999 to work in theater, commercials and film. The independent spirit and natural beauty of Vermont has always been an integral part of his creative self.

In recent years, Turner has worked as a make-up effects artist on feature films including the internationally released “Ice Queen” (2005) and “Zombie Town” (2007). In addition to make-up effects for the feature film “Finding Providence” (2006), he provided visual effects, titles and worked as an associate producer on this film which recently signed a distribution deal with All-Channel Films.
Since 2005, Turner has taught an annual Special Effects workshop for the film department at Burlington College located in Burlington, VT. It has given him a chance to help many young, aspiring filmmakers.

His previous film, "Primevil" (2007), a revenge film set in the year 25,000 B.C., has played film festivals in the US, Canada and the UK. It was nominated for six Claw Awards at the 2007 Terror Film Festival, winning for Best Director of Photography (Chris Lapointe).
