Latest Short Film Awards

A few short films have really stood out at the festivals since the start of 2006:

Binta and the Great Idea by Javier Fesser won 17 new awards, adding to 13 other awards won in 2004/5.

Before Dawn by Bálint Kenyeres has won another 8 awards since being nominated for a Palm d'Or at Cannes in 2005, and 4 other previous awards.

Anthony Lucas' The Mysterious Geographic Explorations of Jasper Morello, after its BAFTA and Oscar nominations has picked up a further 7 awards this year, taking its tally up to 17.

Gaëlle Denis' City Paradise has continued its popular run at festivals with 7 new awards to add to 19 previous awards.

Katell Quillévéré's With All my Might (A Bras le Corps) picked up a further 6 awards.

With 4 new awards each in 2006:

Big Girl by Renuka Jeyapalan of Canada
Maestro by Géza M Tóth of Hungary
The Mantis Parable by Josh Staub of USA

New Short Film Profiles

The Short Film Central website has a database of award-winning short films, contributed to and updated by filmmakers and by us. Some of the latest short film profiles to be added include:

Binta and the Great Idea by Javier Fesser of Spain. Filmed in Senegal, this short film has been made in collaboration with UNICEF in order to increase solidarity for the children in the third world. All of the profits will forever go to UNICEF programs for children. It has won 30 awards to date, and proving to be popular all around the world.

Solace by American Jared Katsiane, has reached audiences in USA, Europe, UK and Brazil, with an award at Spain's ZINEBI festival.

Ten Minutes (Diez Minutos) by Alberto Ruiz Rojo of Spain won an award at its first festival in late 2005, and looks forward to more success over the coming months...

Who Buried Paul McCartney? is a Dutch documentary by Wouter van Opdorp which explores the popular rumour of Paul McCartney's death in the late 60s. Winning at Portugal's FIKE festival, this film continues its festival run, with its next appearance in The Netherlands later this year.
