Short Film Central values your privacy as we value our own. Any personal details you provide to us are stored in our database for our use only, and will not be made available to any third party.

This page describes how we collect and use information provided by visitors to Short Film Central, how cookies are used and our policy on spam.

Information Collected

Contact and Email Forms
When you use the Contact form to send a message to us, or the Email form to send a message to a filmmaker, company or event listed on this site, the details you enter are not stored by us. Your details are only used to compose an email message which is sent immediately to the recipient stated on the form, and a copy of the email is optionally sent to your email address. The message is not copied to any other party.

Newsletter and Wishlist
When you subscribe to the newsletter or ask to be notified when a particular film becomes available, your email address is stored. You can remove your email address from the newsletter mailing list at any time, on the subscriptions page. Your email address on the wishlist will be used once only to notify you if and when that film becomes available, then it will be deleted from the list. See also the Email section below.

Registered Users
When you register for a user account, we store your email address, and a username and password nominated by you. No other personal details are required, except in the following situations:

If you sell products, your full name, address and daytime phone number are required. These are stored in your personal user profile and are only visible to us, and to you when you are logged in.

Your age and your gender are not required details, but if provided they can be used to generate statistics for filmmakers about the target audience for their films. None of your personal details are provided with any such statistics.

Filmmakers, Events and Companies
When you edit a film, filmmaker, event or company profile, all the information you provide for those profiles is publicly displayed with your profile. These profiles do not display any of your personal details from your user account, such as your contact details, unless you enter them again separately in those profiles. You're encouraged to enter all the available information to best promote yourself, but all details are optional except for the title/name and country.

Ordering Products
When you order products in the Shop, whether you are a registered user or not, your name, email address, billing/delivery address and daytime phone number are required. When your order is confirmed, these details are stored so we can fulfil your order and so you can check your order history. None of these details are available to anyone else. We do not collect credit card details. When you confirm your order, you proceed to PayPal's secure website where you can pay directly from your PayPal account, or if you choose to use a credit card, those details are collected by PayPal and not provided to us.

Information Usage

We do not sell, or otherwise provide your personal information to any third party. We only use your details to identify you, to correspond with you, to maintain accounts if you buy or sell products, and for statistical purposes. Your personal details entered in your user profile are not displayed anywhere on the website, with the exception of your name and country if you write film reviews, as described above.

The details you provide on any film, filmmaker, event and company profiles are publicly displayed, so please use your discretion when adding details to those profiles. To protect your email addresses from being harvested from our website, we provide you with several methods to include an email link on your profile pages. We recommend you choose one of the options which does not display your email address directly on the page.

Cookies

Cookies are not used if you are simply browsing most pages on the website, but a session cookie is required when you enter some areas. When you log in, make a compilation DVD or use the shopping cart, a session cookie is set on your computer to identify your computer so the correct information for your session can be displayed as you visit the various pages on the website. If your browser does not accept session cookies, these areas cannot function, and you will be asked to enable session cookies for this website. No information is stored in this cookie apart from a random, anonymous code, and the cookie is deleted from your computer when you close your browser window. Using a session cookie is more secure than the alternative method of transmitting that code in the address when you click links.

Security

Access to your user account is only possible by entering your correct username and password. It is your responsibility to ensure the privacy of your login details and to prevent access to your user account, especially on shared computers. If you forget your password or want to reset or change it, you can do so on the login page, or in your user menu.

Email and Spam

We despise spam. We will never send unsolicited email for any purpose. You will only receive email from us if you have provided your email address to us and subscribed to a newsletter or notification list, as in the Information Collected section above, or if we are personally contacting you in the course of normal business.

When you submit your email address in a form on this website to register as a new user, change your user email address, or subscribe to the newsletter, you will receive an email asking you to confirm your email address. No newsletters or notifications will be sent to that address until it is confirmed. If the address isn't confirmed after a few days, the email address will be deleted from our records.

If you receive an email message about your user account details which appears to be from us, and that message asks you to click a link, that link should ALWAYS start with www.shortfilmcentral.com/ or shortfilmcentral.com/. If the link address does not start with either of those domain names, do NOT click the link! Even if the text in the message looks correct, check that the actual link address matches the text—emails in HTML format can have a 'hidden' address under the link text, like on web pages. We only provide services at the domain name shortfilmcentral.com, and you should never provide your personal user account details at any other web domain.
