Richard Legaspi

Richard Soriano Legaspi is an Advertising Arts, Aesthetics, Painting and History of Arts Professor at the University of the East, College of Fine Arts. He finished his degree in Fine Arts with Advertising Arts as a major at the same university. He studied scriptwriting for film and television under Ricardo Lee.

He also graduated at the prestigious PUSAN International Film Festival 2007 Educational Program "ASIAN FILM ACADEMY" and attended Dean Master classes under Iranian Director Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Film Directing Instructor: Pen-ek Ratanaruang and Cinematography Class under Toyomichi Kurita. He works as one of the Director’s for AFA short film entitled “BLOSSOM” and screened at PRIMUS Theater during the Pusan International Film festival 2007 in South Korea.

“Ambulancia” or Ambulance is Richard’s 4th digital short film. It was screened at the Cinemanila International film Festival 2007 and AFA Fellow’s Night Screening in Busan, South Korea. The film was also official selection at NOUSSA International Film Festival 2008 in Greece, Official Selection at CineVita Film Festival, Best Short Film Winner at Quisumbing-Escandor Film Fest 2008 and Finalist at the Digitales Short Film Contest 2008.

One of his works is “DOORS”, a finalist at .MOV International Short Film Competition, Smart Cuts Category 2005. Another is “Box”, finalist at 2006 End Frame Video Art Project. Doors and Box both represented the Philippines in the recent One Minute Film Festival in Netherlands “Viewpoints of the World 2006”. At the same year, his poetic short film “Makatang Luneta” won in the Cinemadali Short Film Competition sponsored by the Film Academy of the Philippines and National Commissions for Culture and the Arts.

He also works as part-time assistant Director and Production Designer for independent films like “Blood Bank” Best short film at .MOV International short film festival and In competition Clermont Ferrand International Short film festival in France.
