Still
‘Still’ is the first music video for Brighton-based singer/songwriter Victoria Darby, produced by Sam McCarthy & directed by Laura Seymour at Open Book. A fusion of live action and animation with a richly saturated colour palette and textural aesthetic the video is highly stylised, with something of a dream-like quality to it.
‘Still’ is about a weary man, stuck with his feelings for a past love interest; someone who is untouchable and nothing but a fading obsession – the closest he came to love. The video follows the hero as he wanders aimlessly into the hut of fortune teller Mighty Aphrodite. Through entering a séance state with her acting as a spirit guide, our hero goes through loops of staged situations involving the girl who he can see but not touch, forcing him to realize that he has to let go of his obsession and come to accept that she will not be his.
Also featured as the focus of a ‘Making of’ documentary made with students from Boundstone Community College in Lancing and supported by the Arts Council, ‘Still’ is a journey into the surreal and fantastical.
