La République de Fatima

Fatima-Ezzahra Benomar is 30. She has been living since several months in a squat near the Gare du Nord, where several families have found shelter. The court granted them some respite, during the winter break. These months mean a lot to her, time to rest, time to find a job in film making, to find a home, to renew her residence permit… She has lived those last years on a wire, but she’s still active and militant. Member of Jeudi Noir (Black Thursday), founder of the feminist organization “Les Effrontées" (The Cheeky Ones), a Front de Gauche activist, her commitment is not the one of an utopian woman, but one of a woman who concretly organizes an ideal, a response to the difficulties she has encountered.

Film notes

This film is an intimate portrait of a free woman, modern, a fighter who never gives up. An immigrant woman who came to France with a republican ideal and has chosen, against all odds, France as her adopted land.
