Gems of Baram River
Malaysia | 2014 | 25:00 | Documentary, Live Action
In the interior of Sarawak, getting a proper medical service is not an easy task for a villager like Apoi. From the Kampung Long Ikang, Apoi has a daughter, Serina, who suffers from Down Syndrome and heart problem. However, things have changed when the Malaysian government initiated the Bot Klinik Bergerak 1Malaysia (mobile boat clinic) to help the less fortunate rural communities, which are only reachable via river networks in Baram area, in getting their medical treatment.
This documentary brings us the human story, the dedication of the staff of the mobile boat clinic, from doctor and nurses to the boat drivers and medical officer, how they remain away from home for days together, live on the boats, and serve the unserved. Led by Dr Mervyn, the mobile clinic service team is carrying health services and hope to Apoi’s family and many others.
