Gift from God
United Kingdom | 2013 | 9:30 | Fiction, Live Action
Montgomery, a bereaved old man, recounts the life of his murdered grandson. The time has come for revenge, and it's going to be nasty. Home video footage reveals the christening of a newborn. And a mother, long dead. Montgomery sits solitary at a grand dining table, reminiscing his grandson Matthew. He describes Matthew with great admiration unlined with nostalgia and sorrow. He is sedated by memories. As the monologue progresses, Montgomery’s tone becomes gradually sour and psychotic. Matthew was a victim of murder! Suddenly revealed is the Unholy Trinity, beaten up and strapped to their seats. They are responsible for the brutal murder of Matthew. Nor is Montgomery alone. A dozen family members are gathered around Montgomery to pass judgmental on behalf of a ‘cruel and angry god’. A jury sent from God. Montgomery’s haggard wife exits the room and the family begins their ritual with a prayer. His wife returns the room, but bearing a shotgun like a cross. She places it on the table before Montgomery. The prayer is concluded and Montgomery rises to exact retribution. One by one he shoots the Unholy Trinity, fear etched on their gaping faces. The family swarm around to comfort him in his grief.
