Waking at Dawn

Northern Nigeria, 1966: 11yr old Khalid is is forced to run out into the middle of the night to save his 11yr old Christian friend, Obi, from a religious war neither of them understands.

Film notes

The short film is based on actual events that transpired in Northern Nigeria during the pogroms that saw dead about 3,000 Christian men, women and children between the 27th and 29th of May 1966.
The Biafran war (1966-69) followed afterwards, by the end of which more than 3million Christians and several thousands of Muslims lost their lives.
