I Bambini Hanno gli Occhi

Angela is the young manager of a little hotel where she lives with her father. Francesco is blind and lives as a homeless in the same city. After the death of their little brother when they were children, they decided not to see any more, to erase the reality around them and to live without feeling. But at one point their lives will change and suddenly they will see as never before. Finally the children have eyes, forever.

Film notes

Images of children show them in a family devastated by a terrible event, the little brother’s death. We never know how their lives go on, but we feel the pain of their lives lived without “eyes”. Their “eyes” and the negation of “seeing” gets a particular meaning in the children’s existence as in those of Francesco and Angela.

“I bambini hanno gli occhi” (The Children Have Eyes) wants to analyse the “pain” as a universal condition, and at the same time as a personal and private feeling. The pain is a condition of life and a unique and intimate experience. For these reasons the essential core of this work is also its theoretical consideration: “pain is an ineluctable and always inexplicable experience.” Even if everyone can speak about pain in general, no one will tell the same thing about it. It is just its intrinsic duplicity and contradictions that let it to become a philosophical and abstract concept. Francesco and Angela are different characters, a man and a woman, but with the same past. Although from a similar background, their pain develop in different directions. The film is about the universal and private dimension of that pain.
