A Film From My Parish - 6 Farms
Ireland | 2008
We can learn a lot from traditional farming if we are serious about a sustainable earth.
In this film we explore farm traditions that include hand made sheets, hand painted furniture, working with your neighbors and the recycling of materials. We also hear about keeping fowl, of indoor geese and of problems with foxes. The 6 farmers in this film are not eco warriors but they do embody traditional farming attitudes of sustainability and of working with their land and their community. In keeping with the sustainable nature of these farms green filmmaking was a priority. The film was shot with 2 cheap digital stills cameras, a tripod and a mini disc recorder. A bicycle was the main form of transport. The farmers themselves played all the major roles and 95% of the filming was done in natural light. This simple system of recording local history is a model any school can use. Green filmmaking must be a priority.
