Apteeker

A woman, close to her sixties, is a chemist in a small community. As opposed to other community members, who drink alcohol at the corner shop or worship material things, her happiness lies in cats and helping other animals. She has no husband, nor any kids, yet she doesn't want them anyhow. She wishes to be alone. Undisturbed. But this is „unacceptable“ for the society.

Film notes

The aim is to show an individual's solitude in the society for the reason that she has the courage to differ. While observing ESTER and her CATS, one can say that it doesn't matter at all, where these events take place. Every community has such model in it. The film is rather observing than commentating, the commentary should form inside one's head. The intention is to show Ester’s world, her thoughts and activities. To compliment it with, there is the silent village community, which sits near the shop in mornings and consumes alcohol. They are in speaking terms with her only at the pharmacist’s.
She is definitely not the “freak” of the village. Rather, it might be the village community where she lives in. Yet there are objective reasons for how the village behaves – unemployment and isolation from the rest of the world, namely. A different person from their likes in that community is deplorable. The culmination of the film should amplify it all.
