Short Film Profile

Lift

Each morning, as K climbs the 20 flights of stairs to her typing pool, Otis does his best to parallel her ascent. He subtly influences the demands of his many passengers to catch glimpses of his beloved. K’s only pleasure is typing her dreams on her lunch breaks. Everyday they each go about their routines with quiet dedication. But this routine is about to change.
Today, something will happen that will make them realize they share a common dream that could bring them together and forever change their lives.
Lift is a fantasy. A world populated by people and things we have never seen before: a man who has lives inside an elevator, a steam powered typing pool, the ability to discern what someone is typing by the minute variations of each keystroke. But this is not escapist melodrama. The emotional life of the main characters is a rarification of experiences that we all share as human beings: the hesitancy to step beyond the safe confines of our known limitations, the ache of a secret passion, the moment when we must decide to take a risk in the hope of realizing a greater desire. Lift seeks to distill and amplify the emotions that we become immured too in our daily lives. Its fanciful aspects serve to highlight the magic of the everyday that resides under the façade of normal existence.
