Observations on life in a new neighbourhood.
In 2008 I decided to move across the Country from Edmonton to Montreal, Canada. Combining, hand and lab processed film shot in Edmonton shortly before leaving, with footage shot in Montreal, this film is a record of that transition. Montreal footage was shot shortly after my arrival and is a mixture of staged shots and quiet, day-to-day observations on life in my new neighbourhood, from the steady rumble of the trains that run behind my apartment, to the unexpected appearance of a white horse holding up traffic on Van Horne. Film-making, rather than working as a distancing and voyeuristic practice as it is so often theorized, was a way for me to discover and engage with my new-found surroundings.
