The Incredible Journey

In 1970, the SS Great Britain returned to Bristol to be salvaged after the 8000 mile journey of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's famous ship.

Film notes

This animated documentary has been developed in a collaborative project of the ss Great Britain Trust and the University of the West of England, and has been realized by members of staff, students and alumni from the university's Creative Arts faculty.
It is based on interviews undertaken by the SS Great Britain Trust with people having been involved in the salvage operation and remembering the ship coming back in the summer of 1970.
The Incredible Journey is divided into 3 parts - the ship's salvage in the Falkland Islands, its 8000 mile journey across the Atlantic and its homecoming to the dock it had been built 127 years ago; each part being represented in a different animation technique relating to its specific nature.
